[Translation] TV Guide 2007.2.24-3.2 Arashi interview
Late, I know. But this is my first time actually translating with the intention of other people reading it. Also, I don't have a beta reader, so please excuse any awkward sentences. Anyway, the topics given by TV Guide were:
1. Tell us about the single "Love So Sweet."
2. Tell us something sweet about another member.
3. Tell us something sweet about yourself or how you would spend time with a date.
Enough of my rambling and excuses! On to the important stuff!
Nino tells us about the new single!
It’s a sweet song, but also cute. It’s a song you can listen to in many different ways.
It’s a song that feels good to sing, and the title phrase “Love So Sweet” also comes up often. (*grin*) Overall, it’s sprinkled with “sweet” words, so it has the feeling of a song about sweet love, but “sweet” can also mean cute, ya know. I’d like people to think about many different situations while listening to it. “Fight Song” is actually a song written three years ago, and the world view I was into at that time comes out. I’d be happy if people can feel that while listening to it. (*grin*)
Matsujun knows Nino’s sweet point
The info in a sweet mail from Nino is a secret between only you two.
When Nino was away from Japan filming “Letters from Iwo Jima,” I got a really sweet mail from him. The contents…? That’s secret. (*grin*) Anyway, the contents were short but filled with emotion. Vice versa, because we were separated, I think I too got accustomed to that and included those emotions, and thought, ”There are more important things than words.”
Sho-kun knows Aiba-chan’s sweet point
Sentimental Aiba’s latest episode is this.
Aiba-chan is really sentimental. He said a little while ago when he was at home watching a movie with his little brother, he was the only one crying. (*grin*) On top of having your older brother barge in and be a pest, because he was crying, that’s annoying for the younger brother, ya know? As for me? That kind of thing doesn’t happen. Ah, I could be weak when it comes to kids. Recently on “Mago Mago Arashi,” just by looking at a sleeping child’s face, I feel happy and my eyes fill with tears. Maybe it’s my age?
Aiba-chan tells us about the new single!
I'd like everyone to get excited by the cute and catchy melody.
Because “Love So Sweet” is a song with impact, I’ve loved it from the demo. Even though I’ve sang it a dozen times in the PV and elsewhere, I’m not tired of it. I really like the lyrics and the elegant simplicity of the phrase “I’ll never ever forget that sky in my memories.” Since the melody is cute and catchy, and it’s an okay key for girls, I’d like people to get excited with it at karaoke. And at the live concert, everybody burst out with “Fight Song!”
Aiba-chan knows Matsujun’s sweet point
On location for “Mago Mago” Jun-kun has a really sweet feeling.
Basically, he’s a total sadist, ya know. (*grin*) He doesn’t show his cute side very often, but when we go to fix dinner for kids on “Mago Mago,” Jun shows us a little bit of his cute behavior. If the kid is a little girl, he’ll start to play house with her. I pay close attention when we’re on location for “Mago Mago!” (*grin*)
Matsujun tells us about the new single!
Since it’s in a key aimed at girls, I’d like them to sing it at karaoke.
“Love So Sweet” is a well done song, and I like that I don’t get tired of the pretty melody, but unfortunately the key is high. (*grin*) But I think of all the Arashi songs that girls want to sing at karaoke, this one is good. People will soon realize this on music programs, but the melody is also cute. Paired with “Itsumademo,” they feel connected. Are the pictures of the cars on the cover a reference to Domyoji? I think so, but… it’s a mystery. (*grin*)
Nino knows Oh-chan’s sweet point
His charm point is that there definitely has to be a switch for his slouch!
I think deep down in my heart that Ohno-san is the cute type. For example, the fact that he always wears the same hairstyle, and after that, his slouch. (*grin*) Aside from when he sings and dances, he’s always hunched over. It’s mysterious, ya know. I don’t know what kind of switch it is, but even though he’s really beautiful when he dances, when it’s over, he slouches again. (*grin*) Next time I’m going to search for where the switch is.
Oh-chan tells us about the new single!
There’s momentum and the elegant simplicity feels really good to sing.
From the beginning, “Love So Sweet” was really easy to sing and easy to get stuck in your head. The key feels really good, and it’s a rewarding song to sing. I’d like for couples to listen to it while walking and holding hands. Use one ear phone each. The song is like, “we broke up, came closer, and we can’t be apart again.” (*grin*) We sing “Fight Song” live, but around the encore we blow off the lyrics. (*grin*) Since I think nobody’s ever heard the lyrics properly, I’d like people to listen carefully.
Oh-chan knows Sho-kun’s sweet point
Sho-kun’s cute when he’s entranced with eating.
Sho-kun’s cute when he’s eating. It’s like he can’t see anything else because he’s so engrossed with eating. A sweet time spent with Sho-kun? Hmm… it’d have to be when someone’s cooking for him, wouldn’t it? (*grin*) If someone cooks something for him, he’ll probably eat it all and say, “This is incredibly good!” While watching him, it’d be nice to eat together, wouldn’t it?
Sho-kun tells us about the new single.
Ha-j-san’s bass and the liveliness of the drums at the end are the best.
No matter what song I sing I grow to love it, but I liked “Love So Sweet” from the beginning. I like the arrangement aimed at young people about our age.
We wanted rap in only one part of “Itsumademo” so I wrote it in one night. (*grin*) Not since “A Day in Our Life” have I worked hard to layer my rap and Ohno-kun’s improv, but I was pleased.
Arashi are actually this sweet!
Matsumoto Jun
Now I’m hooked on sweet coffee, and althought they’re not sweet, supplements too.
Filming “Hana Yori Dango 2” is really hard. The end of recording is always late at night, but I’m always moved by the staff’s energy. And akin to that, the flavor of my coffee is getting sweeter day by day. Recently, the staff has been ordering the coffee to my liking… but this is a normal story for ordinary people, isn’t it? (*grin*) Also, I’m into supplements, and those are also ordered for me.
Ninomiya Kazunari
If people think of me as cute when I add my own punchlines while watching TV… (*grin*)
I want the person I like to always be free. So I won’t interfere. I’d like them to cherish their alone time. So when we spend time together, only then should be the sweet time. Just being together is okay too. Incidentally, I often add my own comments when I watch TV. And when I’m able to say something good at exactly the right time, I’m incredibly happy. If someone thought of that part of me as cute, I’d raise both hands and say “banzai!” (*grin*)
Aiba Masaki
Set out by train on a trip around the world and look for really really good daifuku*!?
Hmm… I’d probably stroll around a miniature world architecture theme park. If we go by train, it’ll feel like a light-hearted trip around the world… my idea’s sweet, right? (*grin*) If we’re talking about sweet things, just recently I got anko and fresh cream filled daifuku from my friend, and it was really good. But I don’t know where they’re selling this daifuku. How about if I say we’ll start our sweet time by searching for that daifuku? My ideas are sweet maybe… (*grin*)
{*Note: daifuku - a Japanese sweet usually made with mochi (rice cake) and sweet red bean.}
Sakurai Sho
My sweet side is embarrassing (*grin*) so instead, a little story about the filming of the PV.
After we finished filming the “Love So Sweet” PV, it was late at night, but when we went back to the dressing room, everyone celebrated my birthday. And there was a really sweet chocolate cake and… is this story no good? (*grin*) It’s embarrassing! Talking about your sweet side… (TV guide: The story’s no good.) Well then, I’ll give you an extra piece of information. At that time we were relaxing almost naked. I’m done! (*grin*) Please look forward to seeing us as mannequins in the next PV!
Ohno Satoshi
A time other than when I want to be fixed on something I’m making… (*grin*)
If we’re talking about spending sweet time, I want to eat crepes with a girl younger than me along Harajuku’s Takeshitadori. (*grin*) I want to have cream put on me and taken off and say “Kya kya!” The crepe’s sweet, and we’re sweet. (*grin*) When I’m with a girl I like I want to be with them for a long time, but not when I’m making things. Because I’m making things and the air is stifling, an aura you don’t wanna go near probably comes out. (*grin*) Apart from that, spoiling someone and being spoiled is okay. We might be a clingy pair. (*grin*)
Translator's Prattle:
*In that last part, I'm pretty sure Leader means he'd like to have the crepe cream playfully put on his face and then wiped off by the girl, but I'll allow you all to entertain any other fantasies you may have. どうぞ。Also, is it called "Takeshitadori?" I don't live in Tokyo, so I don't know the street names. ^_^;
*Nino is officially my favorite person to translate for. His manner of speaking is so easy and straightforward. I didn't have to touch my dictionary once to figure out what he was saying. ニノ、ありがとう!
*Sho may be my #1, but he's so difficult to translate! 先生、かんべんしてくれー!!
